Swing dancing is my main outlet outside of work. I make it out to social dances and workshops as often as I can, and I also DJ for small community swing dances. You learn to lead and follow with whoever shows up, and the community is tight. Same crowd at the weekly dances, road trips to out-of-town events. Great way to find a small community in a big city.

Sailing

I sail out of a volunteer-run club where everyone pitches in. Members help each other with boat maintenance, repairs, and the endless list of things that need doing to keep a boat on the water and the club running smoothly. I also race when I can. The tactics and strategy side of racing is what hooked me reading shifts, picking the right side of the course.
